The secret to increasing colllagen?

What is the secret to increasing collagen?

Collagen is an important protein in our skin needed to give our skin structure, firmness, and volume. It is also vital for helping our skin heal. Collagen is formed from skin cells known as fibroblasts, which unfortunately diminish as we age. This leads to the formation of wrinkles and loss of volume. So how do we step up our collagen production?

Treatments that increase collagen production:

In a nutshell you need to look at treatments that ' annoy " the skin , forcing an intentional injury that will force the skin to regenerate itself. These include chemical treatments such as peels, mechanical treatments such as microneedling and thermal treatments such as laser or radio frequency.

However no matter what you do the HEALTH of your fibroblasts is key. If you do not have healthy fibroblasts you will not make much collagen .

How do we make healthy fibroblasts?

It all comes down to healthy lifestyle choices:

  • Nutrition:

Try to keep sugar & processed foods down to a minimum.

  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water to maintain skin elasticity and support overall skin health.

  • Sun Protection: Use sunscreen daily to protect skin from UV damage, which can break down collagen.

  • Avoid Smoking & Vaping: Both can accelerate collagen breakdown and lead to premature aging of the skin.

  • Regular Exercise: Engaging in physical activity can improve circulation and promote the delivery of nutrients to the skin.

  • Quality Sleep: Ensure adequate sleep to allow for skin repair and regeneration.

  • Skincare Products: Use medical grade skincare containing retinoids, peptides, and antioxidants to support collagen production.

By making these healthy lifestyle choices, you can support your fibroblasts and enhance collagen production, leading to healthier, more youthful-looking skin.
